Cortez City Hall

The new Cortez City Hall created from an existing newspaper office and printing facility owned by the Cortez Journal. The existing building provided ample space for the city. The challenge was the re-purposing the industrial bay printing areas for use as offices and public meeting areas. Numerous skylights and solar tubes were introduced into the interior spaces to provide natural daylighting and offices were arranged around the outside perimeter to facilitate daylighting and views.

Outstanding features designed by RA+A include a custom stained glass ceiling and an undulating floating wood panel ceiling allowing in light and creating a view to the original steel trusses above.
